HOW TO WRITE A REVIEW FOR AUTHORS’ BOOKS ON BOOKNEY APP

You have no idea how thrilled authors feel when readers of their work write reviews. More so, if you are an avid bookworm who loves to share what you think of an author’s work, writing a book review is a great way to start. It also lets fellow readers know about an exciting new page-turner—or give a heads up a book might not meet expectations.

When reviewing a book on Bookney, you want your review to be informative and helpful for your audience. So, we have written tips to teach you how to write a review for authors’ books on Bookney app.

  1. Log in on Bookney app.
  2. If you do not have an account on Bookney app, then sign up. (Learn how to sign up and read books on Bookney)
  3. Head over to your Bookney library and select the book you want to write a review for.
  4. If you do not have any book in your library and would want to buy one, click here. After buying the book and reading, go to your library and click on the book you want to review. Scroll down and you will see the add customer review button.
  5. Click on the add customer review button and start writing.
  6. Your book review must contain the following elements for it to be outstanding.

A hook: A “hook” is a line that catches your audience’s attention and piques their interest so they’ll continue reading your review instead of scrolling past it. Your hook could be an interesting or provocative statement (question).

Essential book information: Share any general information about the book that is important for readers to know. The title and author are an obvious choice. The year the book was published may be relevant if it came out 10+ years ago. Be sure to mention if the book is part of a series and whether it’s necessary to have read other books in the series before this book.

Basic plot summary: Share a high-level synopsis of the plot so your audience gets the gist of what the story is about. Best practice is to leave out the climax or ending of the book and avoid giving away spoilers so you don’t ruin the story for your audience. Have it in mind that you should be mindful of your word count while in this stage. On Bookney, we advise you keep your word count here to a maximum of 50 words.

Your praise and critique: Simply saying a book was “good” or “bad”, or that you liked it or didn’t, isn’t helpful. Let your audience know why you think it’s a great read, or why you found it disappointing. Sharing these details will help your audience form their own opinion of whether they would enjoy reading the book. Also, remember that you’re reviewing a book that another human poured their heart and soul into writing. Express your honest opinion, but don’t be nasty about it. Imagine if it were your book being reviewed, how would you want a reader to express their critique?

Your recommendation: After sharing your praise and critique, let your audience know your conclusions. This is where you indicate who you think would enjoy the book and what they will learn.

  1. Proofread your review.
  2. Then post it.

Writing a review for an author isn’t Herculean, and the author will appreciate you for taking the time to do so. If you have read books on Bookney but haven’t written a review, you are ABSOLUTELY WRONG.

Why not head over to Bookney app and write that long overdue review?

Cheers to more bookgasms!
